한글 내용

「남충장공시고 목판」은 조선 영조 때의 무신 남연년(南延年, 1653∼1728)의 문집을 간행하기 위하여 1748년(영조 24)에 만든 목판이다.
남연년의 본관은 의령(宜寧)으로 자는 수백(壽伯)으로, 부친은 남두명(南斗明)이다. 1676년(숙종 2)에 무과에 급제, 선전관을 거쳐 1727년에 청주영장(淸州營將)이 되어 토포사를 겸하였다. 이듬해 이인좌(李麟佐)의 난이 일어나자 난을 진압하던 중 청주성이 함락되면서 절도사 이봉상(李鳳祥)과 함께 붙잡혔으나, 반도들에게 굴하지 않고 꾸짖다가 죽었다. 1728년에 좌찬성에 추증되고 이듬해에 숭선군(崇善君)에 추봉되었으며 청주의 표충사(表忠祠)에 제향되었다. 저서로는 『남충장공시고』가 있다.
의령남씨 양정공파 대종회 소장본인 「남충장공시고 목판」은 서(序) 4판, 원고(原稿) 25판, 부록(附錄) 18판, 발(跋) 4판, 공표제(共標題) 1판 등 모두 52판으로 되어 있으며, 크기는 가로 47㎝, 세로 23㎝, 두께 1㎝내외이다. 반곽의 크기는 22.6×15㎝로 계선이 있고 본문은 반엽 6행 13자로 주쌍행(註雙行)이며 상하향이엽화문어미(上下向二葉花紋魚尾)이다.
한편, 초고본 4책은 『남충장공시고』로서 유고(遺稿) 수초본(手草本)에 수록된 1,600여수에 달하는 시 중에서 100여수의 시를 당시의 문신 홍계희(洪啓禧, 1703∼1771)가 왕명으로 편집·간행한 것이다. 1권은 74면, 2권은 120면, 3권은 100면, 4권은 136면이다. 행수는 4책 모두 12행이다.
「남충장공시고 목판」은 시문집으로서 결판 없이 전판이 보존되어 있어 학술적·문학적 연구와 목판의 각자(刻字)·서체의 연구에 귀중한 자료로 평가되고 있다.

Namchungjanggong sigo mokpan (Woodblocks of the Poems of Nam Yeon-nyeon) are printing blocks carved for the printing of the writings of Nam Yeon-nyeon (posthumous title: Chungjanggong, 1653~1728), a military official of Joseon who lived during the reign of King Yeongjo. Fifty-two woodblocks were carved in 1748 (the 24th year of the reign of King Yeongjo of Joseon), comprising four blocks for the Preface, twenty-five blocks for the main body of the text, eighteen blocks for the Appendix, four blocks for the Postface and one for the title page.
This complete set of woodblocks with no missing blocks is considered of inestimable value for academic and literary research into the Joseon period, and is regarded especially important for xylographic research and the understanding of calligraphic styles used in woodblock printing.
