최용진씨는 충주에서 매형(서성균)이 운영하는 대장간 일을 도와주다 1974년부터 증평에서 자신의 대장간을 운영해 오고 있으며, 오랜경험과 숙련된 기술로 한번 본 것은 도면없이 삼국시대 무기류, 전통도구 등을 재연할 수 있는 장인이다.
1995년 11월 한국산업인력관리공단이 주관한 전국기능경기대회에 참가하여 전국 최초의 대장간 부문(야장) 고유기능전승자로 선정 되었다. (증평군 향토유적대장)

Master Blacksmith Choi Yong-jin, who learned to be a blacksmith while helping his brother in-law Seo Seong-gyun at Seo’s forge in Chungju, has been running his own smithy in Jeungpyeong since 1974. With his long experience and refined skills, Master Choi can recreate weapons and traditional tools from the Three Kingdoms period without requiring a drawing and after seeing an object just once.
Choi Yong Jin participated in the National Skills Competition hosted by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea in November 1995 and was selected as Korea’s first Master Blacksmith (Yajang).
