백곡집은 김득신의 문집으로 1590여 수의 시와 180편의 산문이 수록하고 있다. 1730년경 간행한 초간본이 너무 소략하게 이루어졌기에 후손들이 다시 유문을 수집 정리하고 부록을 보충하는 등 간행을 도모하였으나 사정상 이루지 못하고 전해진 것으로 생각된다. 그 필사 경위와 시기는 확실히 알 수 없으나 본집의 내용 중에 6대손인 김유헌(金由憲)의 기록이 있으므로 대략 순조(純祖) 이후에 이루어진 것으로 추정된다.

영어 내용

Baekgokjip refers to the collected works of Kim Deuk-sin, a civil official of the late Joseon period. The collection consists of around 1590 poems and 180 prose works. The first edition, published around 1730, was too brief, so Kim’s descendants tried to publish it again by collecting and organizing the texts and adding appendices, but it appears that they failed in their attempt due to unspecified circumstances, and only the first edition has been handed down for posterity. The background to and period of its transcription are not known for certain, but since the contents of the original collection include a record of Kim’s sixth-generation descendant Kim Yu-heon, it is presumed to have been transcribed sometime after the reign of King Sunjo.
