충주역 급수탑

문화재 설명정보
구 충주역 급수탑은 급수탑 도입 초기의 석조에서 석조+철근콘크리트조를 거쳐 1920년대 중반경부터 일반화되었던 철근콘크리트조 급수탑 형식으로, 상부 물탱크와 하부 기계실이 구조적, 형태적으로 일체화되며 기능적이고 단순하게 구성되어 있다.
급수탑은 원통형 벽체 하단부에 상부가 아치 형태로 처리된 출입구가 1개소 형성되었으며, 내부에는 펌프 기초로 추정되는 콘크리트 구조물과 급배수 철제 배관 흔적 일부가 남아있는 상태이다.
구 충주역 급수탑은 충북선에 남아있는 유일한 급수탑이자 본래 충주역의 상징적 흔적으로 충주 지역 근대기의 대표적 역사성, 상징성, 지역성을 내포하고 있어 등록 가치가 충분하다.

The Former Water Tower of Chungju Station is a type of reinforced concrete structure that was commonly built from the mid-1920s onward in Korea, replacing the earlier stone and reinforced concrete structure. The tower consists of a water tank above and a machine room below it, which are structurally and formatively integrated and show simple yet functional characteristics.
The tower features an arched entrance at the lower part of its cylindrical wall, and a concrete structure that is presumed to be the base for a pump; and it also retains some of the original iron pipes.
As it is the only extant water tower along the Chungbuk Railway Line, and is also a symbolic remnant of Chungju Station, the Former Water Tower of Chungju Station is considered a valuable cultural heritage that embraces the history, symbolism and regional characteristics of the modern era in Chungju.
