한글 내용

1730년(영조 6) 4월에 조선시대 궁중에서 음악과 무용을 담당한 장악원(掌樂院)에서 열린 원로 신하들의 모임을 기념하기 위해 그린 제작한 첩이다.
제1면은 모임을 그린 그림이고 이후는 참석자 명단과 서문으로 이루어져 있다. 조선시대 모임을 그린 다른 그림에 비해, 모임이 벌어진 공간의 비중이 높다. 건물 안에는 산수화 병풍을 배경으로 붉은 색의 독상을 받고 21명의 원로가 둘러 앉아 있고 중앙에는 처용무(處容舞)와 포구락(抛毬樂)을 추는 무용수가 있고, 이들 주변에 시녀, 악사가 있다. 또한 붉은 탁자에는 백자를 비롯한 다양한 기물이 놓여 있다. 화면 하단에는 원로를 모시고 온 사람들과 함께 구경꾼들이 모여서 이야기를 나누며 공연을 감상하고 있다.

영어 내용

Iwon Girohoe Gyecheop (Album of Painting on the Gathering of Elderly Scholars) is an album of painting created to record a gathering of elderly scholars that was held in April 1730 (the 6th year of the reign of King Yeongjo) at the Jangagwon, which was in charge of music and dance at the royal court during the Joseon Dynasty.
The first page features a picture of the gathering, while the rest of the book contains a list of the attendees and a preface. Compared to other gathering pictures from the Joseon dynasty, this particular work places greater emphasis on the venue of the gathering where twenty-one elders siting around a red table inside the building, against a backdrop of a folding screen decorated with a landscape painting. In the center, dancers performing the Dance of Cheoyong and the Ball-Throwing Dance, aids and musicians are depicted. Various vessels and utensils, including white porcelain wares, are placed on the red table. At the bottom of the canvas, bystanders are gathered together with the people who brought the elders to the gathering, chatting and watching the performance.
