문화재 설명정보
충청북도 증평군 증평읍 대동에 자리잡고 있는 단군전은 1948년 5월 27일 김기석(金箕錫)씨 등 지역유지들이 홍익인간의 이념과 경천숭조사상을 길러 민족정기를 빛내기 위해 본존과 담장을 세워 건립됐다. 단군전은 정면 3칸, 측면 2칸의 팔작지붕 목조기와집으로 편액은 서봉(西峰) 김사달(金思達)이 썼다. 단군의 영정은 가로 42㎝, 세로 82㎝의 크기로 평정건(平頂巾)에 흰옷을 입고 의자에 앉아 있는 모습이다. 단군전은 해마다 10월 3일 개천절과 음력 3월 15일 어천절(御天節)에 단군전봉찬회 주관으로 제향을 지내고 있다.
Located in Daedong, Jeungpyeong-eup, Jeungpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, the Dangunjeon Shrine was erected by Kim Gi-seok and a group of local leaders on May 27, 1948 to promote the national spirit based on the founding principle (“hongik ingan,” which means “to broadly benefit the human world”) of Korea’s legendary founder, King Dangun, and to encourage reverence for heaven and veneration of one’s ancestors.
Surrounded by a protective wall, the shrine is a wooden structure with a hip-and-gable, tiled roof and measures three kan (a unit of measurement referring to the distance between two columns) at the front and two kan at the sides.
Its name plaque was written by Kim Sa-dal (pen-name: Seobong). It enshrines a portrait of Dangun (width: 42cm; length: 82 cm) which depicts him seated on a chair, wearing a white robe and a pyeongjeonggeon (flat-top hat).
An ancestral ceremony is held by the Dangunjeon Bongchanhoe Association on the National Foundation Day of Korea (October 3) and Eocheonjeol (Ascension Day of Dangun, March 15 on the lunar calendar) every year.
