문화재 설명정보
본성리 미륵불은 맹동면 본성리 아래맹골 마을 북쪽 개울가에 동향으로 세워진 석불이며 화강암으로 조성한 불상으로 하부가 땅속에 매몰되어 상반신상처럼 보인다. 머리에는 원형의 관을 갖추었으며 귀는 가늘고 길게 표현하였고 눈과 코, 입은 심하게 파손되어 형태가 뚜렷하지 않다. 이 불상은 높이가 210㎝이며 얼굴은 원만하며 머리에 관을 갖추고 있어 위엄이 있고 자비로움을 보인다.
현재의 위치에 사찰이 있었다고 전하나 흔적조차 없고 미륵불만 도랑가에 방치되어 있었던 것을 보호각을 세워 봉안하고 있으며, 이 불상의 조성연대는 조선시대로 추정된다.

The Stone Maitreya Buddha in Binseong-ri stands facing east on the northern side of the stream in the village of Araemaenggol, Bonseong-ri, Maengdong-myeon, Eumseong-gun. The lower part of this granite statue is buried in the ground, giving it the appearance of a half-length sculpture. Standing 2.1 meters tall, the Buddha has a round crown on his head, which gives him a majestic and merciful impression, and thin, long ears, but the eyes, nose, mouth, and other features are severely damaged.
It is said that there used to be a temple at this location, but there are no surviving traces of it, other than this stone Maitreya Buddha, left abandoned at the side of a ditch, and the protective pavilion built to house it. The statue is estimated to have been erected during the Joseon period.
